Renewable Futures Programme
The Renewable Futures Programme is an innovative two-year initiative designed to mobilise young people across Wales to take meaningful action against climate change. Through hands-on waste reduction initiatives, youth-led community projects, and a dynamic digital campaign, we are building a generation of climate champions who will drive sustainable change in their communities, all funded by the Energy Saving Trust!
Why This Matters
Climate change is the defining challenge of our generation and young people are leading the response.
The Renewable Futures Programme provides the tools, opportunities, and platforms they need to shape a greener, more sustainable Wales.
Because when young people lead, the future becomes brighter for everyone.
Impact So Far
Young People Taking the Lead
We’ve been working with young people across Wrexham, Flintshire, and Newport to make real, meaningful change in their communities.
So far, 20 young people have taken on leadership roles to shape and deliver their own youth-led projects, each one designed to inspire local action for a greener future.
Sustainability Workshops
Every week, young people in Newport and Wrexham come together to explore practical, hands-on ways to live more sustainably. From upcycling clothes to tackling food waste, these workshops build the skills, confidence, and knowledge that empower young people to take action.
Our ambition is bold: to support at least 100 young people in each area to become proud, informed, and motivated climate champions.
Youth-Led Social Action Projects
This is where creativity becomes action.
Young people are designing and delivering their own environmental projects. Everything from repair cafés to school workshops, bringing their communities together to think, act, and live greener.
With 20 young leaders driving change in each location, these projects show that small ideas can spark big movements.
Digital Promotional Campaign
Young people’s voices are powerful, especially online.
Our youth-led digital campaign is inspiring climate action across Wales, with our incredible team of Young Co-creators sharing stories, practical tips, and creative challenges on Llais Ifanc social media.
Their mission? To raise awareness, spark conversations, and make sustainable living a natural part of everyday life for young people across Wales.
Paid Opportunities for Young Changemakers
We believe young people’s time, ideas, and creativity should be recognised and valued.
That’s why the Renewable Futures Programme offers paid roles for young participants to take an active part in shaping the project.
From producing digital content to leading workshops, these opportunities help young people develop their skills, gain real-life experience, and make sure their voices are heard in the fight against climate change.
