Media Academy Cymru (MAC) is delighted to offer the following opportunity to be part of a small, multi award winning young persons’ organisation. We deliver a range of innovative projects to meet the changing needs of children, young people and their families in Wales. Everything we do is supported within a framework of a rights led and strengths based approach to support and empower children and young people. Our vision is that all children and young people in Wales are safe and are given opportunities to live meaningful lives.

 

Knife Crime Prevention Worker

Project Outline: We currently have an exciting opportunity for a super-talented individual to join our small staff team as a Serious Youth Violence Knife Crime Prevention Worker (based in Swansea) to deliver innovative interventions (remotely and face-to-face) to children and young people at risk of and victims of serious youth violence, including knife (and other weapons) carrying. The post holder will be expected to build empowering, positive relationships with CYP (aged 10-25) to deter them from using offensive weapons. The successful candidate will have an operational knowledge of working within a contextual safeguarding framework. The successful applicant will work in partnership with Youth Justice Service case managers as part of their agreed intervention plan making individuals and communities in Swansea safer. The post is offered initially until 31 March 2021 subject to successful delivery of the programme.

  • Salary: £23k per annum (plus mileage expenses)
  • Hours/Days: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday (with some evening and weekend working)
  • Location: Swansea YMCA, with travel required across Swansea and the M4 corridor up to the Cardiff Local Authority boundary
  • Start Date: Immediate start available. Fixed term until 31 March 2021 in the first instance (subject to further funding and project outcomes)

Child Exploitation Case Manager - Cardiff & Vale of Glamorgan

Project Outline: MAC’s project will benefit children and young people across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan (primarily aged 10-15) who are vulnerable to all forms of child exploitation. There is already evidence to support that COVID-19 lockdown has changed behaviours, which are putting children and young people at an increased and significant risk, including serious violence. In response, MAC is looking for an experienced, talented and passionate case manager to engage with and support vulnerable children and young people to address unmet needs through a strengths-based methodology, in order to build resilience and positive choice making and move away from exploitation. All candidates must have experience and application of safeguarding, risk management and multi-agency partnership working.

Project Outline: MAC’s Delivering Resilience project will benefit children and young people (primarily aged 10-17) across Swansea who are vulnerable to all forms of child exploitation. There is evidence to support that COVID-19 lockdown has changed behaviours, which are putting children and young people at a significantly increased risk. In response to this emergency, MAC is looking for an experienced, talented and passionate case manager to expand its services in order to engage with and support vulnerable children and young people (face to face and remotely) with bespoke intervention plans to address unmet needs through a strengths-based methodology, in order to build resilience and positive choice making and move away from exploitation.
