Participation Officer

Role Details

Youth Cymru are looking for a dynamic and inspiring Participation Officer to join the team. You will have experience of working with young people and are passionate about young people’s right to shape their own futures. The Participation Officer will play a vital role in this process by establishing and maintaining Llais Ifanc (youth voice of Youth Cymru), supporting young people to actively engage with our campaigns, projects, fundraising and service delivery.

This includes

  • organising meetings
  • consultations and other events with organisations and young people,
  • preparing and delivering workshops/ activities
  • supporting young peoples to engage in projects, events and activities eg. with travel and accommodation.

In addition, the Participation Officer will also support young people to represent Youth Cymru and share their views at external events. Another important aspect of the role is ensuring that participation is widely adopted by staff throughout the organisation and that it is planned for and evaluated effectively.

This role will involve flexible working hours and frequent travel across Wales, UK and Ireland 

Experience Required

  1. Proven record in successfully engaging with young people and supporting their involvement across an organisation
  2. Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to work with a range of young people from diverse backgrounds
  3. Proven ability to convert policies and information into youth friendly language
  4. Experience of using a range of innovative and traditional strategies to engage young people
  5. Experience of preparing, delivering and evaluating workshops
  6. Experience of facilitating large and small group discussions in order to enhance engagement
  7. Experience of working in a service delivery organisation, preferably a charity
  8. Excellent organisational skills with a proven record of organising events including booking travel, accommodation etc.
  9. Excellent team-working skills
  10. Knowledge of devolved issues and ability to engage young people in democracy
  11. Strong presentation skills
  12. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages and social media
  13. Level 2 Youth Work or equivalent

Other Details

  • Salary £20,000
  • 35 Hours a week
  • 9 months contract, with a view to extend, depending on funding
